Abigail Pursued Peace Successfully   1 comment

Let us examine how Abigail,a wise woman who married a foolish but rich man, pursued peace successfully.
We have mentioned four weapons that must be available and rightly deployed to do this in one of the earlier articles. How did Abigail do it?
MAN.
In 1Samuel25:14-17,we read about the report of every good David and his six hundred men did to Nabal’s (Abigail’s husband) servants and business, through a servant who was Nabal’s.
He also reported how Nabal reviled David and his nen who demanded ‘whatever’ Nabal could afford to give them. Finally, the servant revealed to Abigail,
“Now therefore, know and consider what you will do,
for harm is determined against our master and against
all his household…”.
Abigail wasted no time to ward evil off from her household for peace to reign. She deployed her servants with the instructions,
“Go on before me;see,I am coming after you.
But she did not tell her husband Nabal” verse 19.
Note that she did not inform her husband,so his servants, including the one that reported were not engaged. She deployed her own servants, the effective and the efficient.
MACHNERY.
Abigail also deployed the available machinery effectively and efficiently,we read thus,
“…and loaded them(the presents prepared for David and his men)on donkeys.
So it was,as she rode on the donkey…”1Samuel25:18g,20a.
She saw donkeys as the right and appropriate ‘machinery’ to carry out her pursuit of peace. She did not delay in doing this.
MONEY/MATERIALS.
Take note that Abigail knew what the would-be attackers demands were,
“…Please give whatever comes to your hand
to your servants and to your son David.” verse8.
She wasted no time to take ‘…two hundred loaves of bread, two
skins of wine, five sheep already dressed
,five seahs of roasted grain, one hundred
clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of
figs,and loaded them
on donkeys.’
Can you clearly see the deployment of the right materials or money in her case? It has always worked and will always do.
METHOD.
There are various methods of doing things including pursuing peace. Each method must be weighed to know which will be effective and efficient.
Abigail did not get everything ready to await the arrival of those who want to attack her household.
The best method she employed was to carry all she had prepared to meet them on the way.
‘Abigail made haste and took…’verse 18a.
In verse nineteen, she sent her servants ahead of her with a promise to follow them, which she did.
It was a wise method. She may have chosen to send the servants to an angry David, who had determined not to
“…leave one male of all who belong to him(Nabal) by morning light.” 1Samuel25:22.
Besides all that she had presented to David and his men,she honored David. She called David ‘my lord’ and called herself ‘your(David’s) maidservant.
She bowed down before David. She did not see herself as ‘the wife of a rich man’. She wisely humbled herself. She volunteered to declare herself guilty of the offence Nabal, her husband committed. Read details in verses 23-31.
Can you now see clearly, how Abigail wisely deployed all the four Ms to pursue peace?
She did so effectively and efficiently and her territory (household) was in peace. No external attack disturbed the peace reigning in her home.
Now be convinced that you can also attain the feat of pursuing peace as Abigail did. The ball is in your court. Go ahead and do likewise.

David Pursued Peace Successfully   Leave a comment

David pursued peace successfully but it was not easy for him. As we shall see later,he was not as fortunate as Abigail who also pursued peace successfullyg.
The latter was informed of the impending danger about to befall her household, while the former actually got his household successfully invaded and set ablaze.
David’s was the worst that could befall any household. A man or woman in such a situation can lose hope. David was also hopeless in his. Any man or woman can weep in such a condition. David wept. The Bible records,
‘Then David and the people who were with him
lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep.’ I Samuel 30:4
Any man or woman can be so easily distressedg. One thing common to most people is to resign to ‘fate’. They will remain in their state of hopeless permanently or for a very long period.
David did not do this. What did he do?
‘But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God’. I Sam.30:8a-e
After this,he inquired from God whether to pursue the troop or not;whether he will recover or not. The Lord answered him,
“Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.” verse8f-g
At the words of the Lord,he swung into action. He deployed everything at his disposal to recover all, including peace of his household.
MAN
He wasted no time to pursue. The Bible says,
‘So David went,he and the six hundred men
who who were with him,and came to the Brook Besor,…’verse9
David put all men with him to work. They went after the enemies of their peace. They pursued peace by chasing their enemies.
It is worthy of note that in David’s zeal to recover all,he engaged the effective and efficient as well as those that were not.
It was God who helped him to separate them. He separated the men of war with David who were not effective and efficient for that particular assignment from those that were. Verse ten reveals,
‘But David pursued,he and four hundred men for two hundred stayed behind, who were so weary that they could not cross the Brook Besor.’
It is not every man that is effective and efficient on every given role. So, the right and appropriate person must be engagedg.
Let me not forget the role of Abiathar the priest. He was the first man helped David by giving him an ephod with which he inquired from the Lord in vese 7.
MACHNERY
David employed every machinery(weapon) at his disposal. He started with an ephod but he did not stop there. He armed himself with all his men with available weapon of war to chase their enemies. He was known very well as a man of war. I want to believe this:the sword of Goliath could not be excluded from among the ones he engaged. To David,at the start of his life’s war,’there was none like it’. ISamuel 21:8-9
MONEY/MATERIALS
David put materials to work for him. He employed every effective and efficient materials. Those that will not work for positive results were left out for future use.
This was made known in verse 11-12 thus,
‘Then they found an Egyptian in the field,
and brought him to David;and
they gave him bread and ate,and
they let him drink water.
And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs and
two clusters of raisins. So
when he had eaten, his strength came back to him,
for he had eaten no bread nor drink water for three days and nights.’
It was this Egyptian,a servant of David’s enemy, that guided them to the camp of David’s enemies where he recover all.
Can you see the role of effectively and efficiently deploying bread, water, cake and raisins? Note that water and not wine was given!
MEANS/METHODS
As an experienced man of war,David did not rely on his prowess as a worrior. He inquired from the Lord before embarking on chasing the enemies.
Not only this,he was not overzealous to kill the Egyptian who, with his master invaded David’s household. He fed the enemy. He gave him water to drink.
He asked him relevant questions that provided the necessary information that was useful to recover all.
Take note also that he did not delegate the assignment to anybody. He went with his men. He was also available.
His men may not have used his approach to get a hint on how to trail the invaders. At the end,David recovered all.
Do you know that as a man,if you pursue peace, you will get it? No matter how distressed you are about your household;employ all the four Ms at your disposal effectively and efficiently, peace will be restored to your household.

Additional Facts About “Pursue Peace”

According to 1 Peter 3:10,-11, we are counselled thus,
“He who would love life
And see good days,
Let him refrain his tongue from
evil,
And his lips from speaking
deceit.
Let him turn away from evil and do good;
Let him seek peace and pursue it”
We have discussed a little about “seek” to bring out some things involved in it. Now let us also consider its twin-sister, “Pursue” and those things that go with it. In the simplest form, let me say that the main difference between seek and pursue is the use of “force” in the latter.
Now, what are the things involved in “to pursue”?
1. Enquiry. The first step is to meditatively inquire from God, what to do. You can ask Him, ‘Lord, what do you want me to do to pursue it?’ On the other hand, you can present your proposed line of action to Him to confirm whether or not the thought of your heart is in line with what He will support. If you are a child of God, you will be directed by the Holy Spirit to know what to do to pursue peace, Rom 8:14.
2. Determination. Your determination to pursue peace according to the instruction of the Holy Spirit is equally important. The Lord will not force you. He allows mankind to determine which way he wants to go, way of life or death. Therefore, if you want to enjoy life, determine to pursue peace. Your determination is central to all other things. Read Deuteronomy 30:19.
3. Direction.
Any child of God who inquire from Him will not be left unattended to. The Lord will never deny Himself. He promised in Psalm 32:8
“I will instruct you and teach you in
the way you should go;
I will guide you with My eye”
When you follow His instructions and teachings, you are better for it. You will know how to harness your resources to “forcefully” pursue peace.
4. Due weapons. There are some mandatory resources that must be brought in to pursue peace. You need
a) Man
b) Machinery
c) Materials or Money
d) Means or method.
You will see how these come into play when we are considering a man and a woman that successfully put these things into practice.
5. Deployment.
To have all that you need to chase a cause is one thing, deployment is another. If all that you need to pursue peace are made available to you, you do not need to waste time but to go into action immediately to get the desired results.
It is worthy of note that having all the four resources available is one thing, to deploy them calls for answers to two questions
1) Which ones are effective for the pursuit? You may have many of each of those resources but they can not have equall effectiveness for every pursuit of peace. Therefore, you must engage only the right resources for the kind of assignment on hand. Put the right peg in the right hole.
2) Which resources are efficient? Choosing the right resourcd is good but the efficient ones must be involved in a particular task of peace pursuit.
Thank God, people have lived before us and it means they lived for us to copy or to learn lessons from so that we can achieve all they achieved or avoid their pitfalls. We are going to consider a man and a woman who pursued peace until they achieved it. If they succeeded in doing it, you can!

Weapons Of Peace Retention Employed By A Man(concluding part)   Leave a comment

Finally,Sarai was restored to her husband (Abram). No peace was lost between the husband and wife and members of their household. The excursion that was not less than a year which Sarai went did not give room for peace to sneak away.
Thank to God,the words of Proverbs 3:19-20 told us that God employed these weapons, let us read about the last three,
‘The Lord by wisdom founded the
earth;
By understanding He established
the heavens;
By His knowledge the depths were
broken up;
And clouds drop down the dew.’
About the first weapon,we read that our Lord is a God of love.A lover indeed. In John 3:16,we read
‘For God so loved the world that He gave His
only begotten Son,that whoever believes in Him
should not perish but have everlasting life.’
Sir,as a man that will seek peace in his own home, will you go,pray and employ all these unfailing weapons?
‘Happy is the man who finds
wisdom.
And the man who gains
understanding;
Length of days is in her right hand,
In her left hand riches and honor.
Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
And all her paths are peace.
She is a tree of life to those who
take hold of her,
And happy are all who retain her.’ Proverbs 3:13,16-18
Therefore, become a man that employs weapons of peace retention now and forever. May you reap all the rewards.

Weapons Of Peace Retention Employed By A Man.   Leave a comment

WEAPON OF PEACE RETENTION EMPLOYED BY A MAN
There are lots of lessons to learn from the life of father Abraham who is widely called ‘the Father of Faith’.The man was always with his with. The Bible records this about him in Genesis 13:1-2
‘Then Abraham went up from Egypt,
Abraham was very rich in livestock,
siluer,and in gold.’
This shows clearly that it is possible to be rich in material things and still retain peace in the home.Father Abram who later became Abraham remains an good example for every man to follow.
LOVE
To a discerning heart,Ahraham,(Abram if you like),was a man of great love.He loved his wife without reservations. He was ever ready to do anything (allowed by God) to please his wife.
He was ever prepared to make her happy and give her joy.He easily yielded to every desire of his wife, eve when it is contrary to his will.
Let us confirm this in Genesis16:2-3,
‘So Sarai said to Abraham,”See now,the Lord has restrained
me from bearing children.
Please,go in to my maid;perhaps,I shall obtain
children by her.” And Abraham heeded the voice of Sarai.
Then Sarai,Abraham’s wife,took Hagar,her maid,
the Egyptian, and gave her to her husband Abraham,
to be his wife,…’
Later, when Sarai said to the same man,her husband to
‘Cast out this bondwoman and her son; for the son
of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son,
namely with Isaac.’Genesis 21:10
Although the request was displeasing to Abraham, the woman’s request, this time enjoyed divine support;and Abram again yielded to the woman’s request again.
This is also an evidence of his love for his wife,Sarai, and his son,Ishmael.
KNOWLEDGE
Father Abraham was a man of great knowledge. He knew his God and was obedient to Him.You can read how the man was instructed by God to depart to an unknown promised land in Genesis 12:1-4.
Do you know that it did not end there? The rich man,Abraham, had knowledge of all that he had.He knew the value of all his belongings. It is recorded in Genesis 12:11 that
‘And it came to pass, when he (Abram) was close to entering Egypt,
that he said to Sarai his wife,”Indeed
I know that you are a woman of beautiful countenance.” ‘
Father Abraham was not ignorant of his wife’s beauty. He had the knowledge of his wife’s beauty. He appreciated it.He knew that any man would like to have a woman of Sarai’s beauty as wife.
Not only that,he had the knoledge of how people who do not fear God behave. He knew what they could do. He made this known when Abimelech took Sarai as his wife in Genesis chapter twenty.
UNDERSTANDING
Father Abram, understood what evil people who do not fear God can do to him because of his beautiful wife,Genesis12:12 reads,
‘Therefore it will happen, when the Egyptians see you,
that they will say,
“This is his wife”,and they will
kill me,but they will let you live.’
That is a man’s understanding at play.He understood what evil people can do.He saw with his inner eye what could happen before it happened.Funny (or sad ?) enough,it happened exactly the way he had envisaged it.
‘So it was, when Abram came into Egypt, that the
Egyptians saw the woman, that she was very beautiful.
The princes of Pharaoh also saw her and commended
her to Pharaoh. And the woman was taken to Pharaoh’s house.’ Genesis12:14-15
Can you see the important role played by understanding? Do you see any need for you to ask for understanding from God? If father Abram needed and used it,you can not but need and use it.
Do you know that the same ‘method’ was used when the couple sojourned in Gerar.
It was there that Abram made known his understanding to king Abimelech who queried him for telling him(the king) that Sarai was his(Abram’s) sister:he told him(the king),
‘Because I thought surely the fear of God is
not in this place;and they will kill me on account
of my wife.’ Genesis20:11
Can you see that it was his understanding the way of life of evil people helped him to survive? It will surely help you too,in all that you will have, have understanding!
WISDOM
The friend of God,Abram, employed wisdom-sound wisdom, divine wisdom. He knew his God very well that He is a God that can protect him and all that were his. He did not forget God’s promise,
‘I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses
you;’ Genesis 12:3a-b
He knew that God will never fail to fulfill His promise,so he left everything in His hand.
Not only this, with his understanding of the way the evi5 people do things,he must take steps to cage them. He the applied wisdom. He made a provision in advance:
‘Please say you are my sister, that it
may be well with me for your sake, and
that I may live because of you.’Genesis12:12
The sound wisdom worked perfectly well. It was well with Abram for the sake of Sarai and he lived because of her.
Genesis 12:16 discloses,
‘He(Pharaoh) treated Abram well for her(Sarai’s) sake.
He had sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male and female servants,
female donkeys and camels.’
To be concluded,bear with me.
